Oily skin: why skipping moisturiser is not always the answer
Shine and comfort are different concerns. Consider product choice and the habit of over-cleansing oily skin.

Avoid a contest to remove every trace of oil
Visible shine does not require harsh cleansing at every opportunity. Areas that feel oily may differ from those that feel tight. Observe that pattern rather than expecting one skin-type label to explain every need. Consider your cleanser and drying products together. Instead of compensating for an irritating routine by adding more products, discuss a simpler approach that is comfortable and practical to maintain.
Use the label as a starting point
Oil-free or non-comedogenic labels can help when considering products, but do not guarantee individual tolerance. Think about texture, compatibility with sunscreen and how your skin feels later in the day. Acne or ongoing irritation may need more than a cosmetic product change. Mention any dermatologist-prescribed treatment during your care consultation, and do not stop medication or add treatment solely because of a salon recommendation.
Questions to bring to your consultation
- Do shine and tightness occur in the same areas?
- Am I considering both labels and personal tolerance?
- Have I mentioned existing acne treatment?
