Bring information as well as photographs
Previous treatment dates, known product details and reactions may be more useful than a photograph alone. Prepare information about medicines, supplements, ongoing treatment and medical history relevant to assessment. Ask which details are needed and do not stop medication on your own. A short written note helps prevent an appointment from focusing entirely on an aesthetic preference while overlooking information needed for a clinical decision.
Clarify three parts of the proposal
Discuss the aim first, alternatives and risks second, and review/contact arrangements third. Know who would perform the procedure and in what medical setting. Understand what the overall fee includes rather than assuming a review is included. Asking for time to decide is reasonable. If you cannot explain the proposal back in your own words, revisit unclear points before agreeing instead of relying on a familiar treatment name.
Questions to bring to your consultation
- Have I prepared previous treatment and medication details?
- Are the practitioner and medical setting clear?
- Do I understand risks, fees and follow-up arrangements?
