Filler follow-up: which symptoms should not wait?

Ask for a written follow-up plan

Do not manage recovery solely through social media advice. Ask your clinician what to monitor, when review should occur and who to contact if something unexpected develops. The possibility of swelling or bruising does not make every new symptom normal. Follow your individual instructions rather than adding massage, medicine or another intervention yourself. Save the contact details before leaving so that a practical question does not become a search for the right person later.

Vision changes and sudden symptoms

If you develop sudden visual changes, unusual severe pain or striking skin colour changes such as whitening or a grey-blue appearance, do not wait for a routine review: seek urgent medical care. Inform the treating clinician too, but do not delay emergency assessment while waiting for a reply. An online photograph cannot safely rule out a complication. Sudden neurological symptoms, including facial weakness or speech difficulty, also require emergency assessment.

Questions to bring to your consultation

  • Do I have written instructions and contact details?
  • Do I know not to wait for routine review with urgent symptoms?
  • Do I have a record of the product used?

This article provides general information, not an individual diagnosis, treatment plan or procedure instructions. Discuss suitability, risks and personal care with the appropriate qualified professional.
