Permanent makeup: discussing the outline and colour

An outline supports discussion but does not guarantee the healed result. Make shape and colour preferences specific.

Permanent makeup: discussing the outline and colour

Last updated:

Review the outline in different expressions

Take time to review a proposed outline for brow or lip-area pigment work. Look at your face at rest and with normal expressions. Describe concerns through specific features such as the start, end, thickness or definition. Do not rely on a promise to eliminate every natural asymmetry. A reference photograph helps communicate preferences; it cannot guarantee a copy of another person’s face.

Distinguish initial colour from long-term appearance

The colour seen immediately after treatment does not represent the healed appearance on its own. Ask about possible changes, the effect of previous pigment and review arrangements. A colour chart cannot establish your personal result. Request a record of the agreed outline and scope. Resolve uncertainty before treatment instead of accepting a shape you dislike on the assumption that it can easily be changed later.

Questions to bring to your consultation

  • Which outline details am I approving?
  • Have we discussed initial and healed colour?
  • Have previous pigment and correction limits been considered?

This article provides general information, not an individual diagnosis, treatment plan or procedure instructions. Discuss suitability, risks and personal care with the appropriate qualified professional.
