Peeling polish off can damage the nail surface. Give removal as much attention as application.

Discuss removal at the appointment

When choosing a gel system, ask how it will be removed and when review may be needed. Removal methods differ between products. Scraping, peeling or forcing material off can damage nails. A lifted edge is not a reason to pull off the rest. First establish which product was used and get appropriate removal guidance rather than assuming an online method applies to your system.

Assess the surface instead of hiding it

If removal leaves sensitivity, apparent thinning or visible changes, do not automatically cover them with a new set. Discuss whether a break or further assessment is appropriate; persistent changes or pain need healthcare advice. Gentle everyday care and moisturising are different from aggressive filing. Base the next appointment on the condition of the nail and surrounding skin, not simply the available booking slot.

Questions to bring to your consultation

  • Do I know which system was used?
  • Am I peeling or forcing material off?
  • Has sensitivity been assessed before reapplication?
